What is JEE Advanced Exam?
The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), commonly known as JEE (Advanced), is utilised for admitting students to various undergraduate programs at IITs and seven other centrally funded institutes, including the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), and Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy (IIPE).
IITs offer undergraduate programs that lead to Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s, or Bachelor-Master Dual Degrees in Engineering, Sciences, or Architecture through JEE (Advanced). Students enrolled in dual degree programs receive both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree upon successful completion of the course content. Students pursuing a four-year bachelor’s degree at select IITs also have the option of pursuing B.Tech. (Honors) and/or B.Tech. with Minors.
Students pursuing a dual degree may also choose to pursue a minor. Additionally, B.Tech. students at several IITs have the option of pursuing an interdisciplinary dual degree, which involves obtaining a bachelor’s degree in one department and a master’s degree in another.
Under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB), the seven Zonal Coordinating IITs conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) to evaluate a candidate’s performance. Admission to the Bachelor’s and Integrated Programs is based on the JEE-Advanced score.
JEE Advanced Exam Papers
The JEE Advanced exam is further divided into two papers :
- Paper 1 (Maths, Physics, Chemistry): 3 hours(9 am to 12 pm)
- Paper 2(Maths, Physics, Chemistry): 3 hours(2:30 pm to 5:30 pm)

Exam Mode & Sessions
JEE Advanced is conducted only in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. It consists of two papers, each of 3 hours’ duration, containing questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. JEE Advanced periodically alters the pattern and the nature of the questions. The actual nature of the question paper is explained in the instructions provided to the students on their computer screens during the test. JEE Advanced consistently designs the paper to evaluate students’ comprehension and analytical abilities.

2. Eligibility Criteria
What are the eligibility criteria for appearing for JEE Main exam?
All candidates must simultaneously meet the following five criteria to be eligible for JEE Advanced:

5. Cut off
To qualify the JEE Advanced candidates must satisfy the minimum subject-wise and aggregate qualifying marks. Qualifying marks are different for different categories. It varies every year and is released after the declaration of results.

6. Counselling
JEE Advanced counselling is the process of seat allocation to qualified candidates for admission to various undergraduate engineering programs offered by the IITs and other participating institutions. The counselling process is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).
JoSAA conducts the centralized counseling process for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. Candidates need to fill in their choices of courses and institutes. Seats are allocated based on merit, choices filled, and seat availability. After seat allocation, candidates need to report to the allocated institute for document verification.
7. Preparation Procedure
Understand the Syllabus – Have a clear understanding of the JEE Advanced syllabus to the topic level.
Conceptual Clarity – Focus on building strong fundamentals and conceptual clarity in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Regular Practice – Practice regularly with previous year’s papers and mock tests.
